New Years resolutions are like hitting refresh. You get to start new journeys, healthy habits, and make a positive change in your life. If you want to be inspired to stick to those new resolutions, read on for more on my ways of setting intentions for 2018. Without further ado, lets create the best year for 2018 and beyond!1. In 2017 I had many ups and downs creatively. My former blogging partner and I were not communicating well and ended up shutting down our blog and other artistic projects due to creative and personal differences. This change was very challenging because I know I wanted to keep creating fashion content but I didn’t know if I could do it myself. Thanks to my amazing fiancee who came up with the idea for Ms Coffee and Cream, I felt motivated and inspired enough to just got for it and start blogging on my own. I wasn’t sure if I could photograph, edit, write, and keep up with Instagram all by myself. It turns out we can all do anything if we put out minds to it!
The biggest lesson that I have from this experience is that sometimes letting people, friends or co founders go is okay. Sometimes hanging on to negative situations because you feel guilty of because you feel you ‘should’ is not beneficial to anyone. This year I plan to surround myself with only those who feed me positively and I plan to honor and listen to my instincts sooner. I want to place more trust and value in myself, my skills, my creativity and my sense of people.
2. 2017 taught me that I need to be less shy and more open to connecting with amazing people that have found me through me blog or Instagram. Its easy to be by yourself as a creator and sit alone editing photos or posting them, but sometimes it get scary when real people start to become interested in your work. Maybe its the fear or success? Or the reality the your work is actually being seen and enjoyed? What a paradox! In 2017 I focused on getting over that fear of creating intimacy and authentic friendships with others and I could not be happier and more determined to keep creating those connections! For instance, I was able to cultivate a wonderful new friendship with Dillon Delacroix just by reaching out over DM and telling her how much I admired her work. It turned out we have so much in common and she has such a special place in my heart now. She also connected me with one of my favorite brands Fame and Partners for my favorite collaboration of the year.
Lesson learned: don’t be afraid to connect with others!! We have so many amazing people that can help support us if we open our eyes wide enough 🙂 Community is the best thing to cultivate.
3. As I get older and wiser, I have come to appreciate the importance of creating harmony within yourself and your surroundings. Peace of mind and harmony have been things I never used to strive for, but now I need them more than ever for my creativity to flourish. I used to come home and toss clothes on the floor and immediately sit on the couch and start watching a show. I have always been one of those disorganized messy types, and I was perfectly happy with that existence until this year. My fiancee and I both hate cleaning up and find it boring, but we made a pact to re design our whole apartment for optimal Feng Shui and instituted some new rules (like always put things back right away) so that we could easily maintain a zen environment. So far our space has been uplifting and filled with joy. It is amazing how much more positive and creative I feel working from home when my home is light, clean, organized, and filled with vibrant energy.
Always be mindful of the energy in your home and how its energy influences your well-being. Make a habit of paying close attention to the so-called feng shui “trinity” that is deeply connected to your health: your bedroom, your bathroom, and your kitchen. Nothing is static in the world of energy, so be wise and keep your home healthy and happy. I’ll be posting more in 2018 on organization and harmony from the perspective of a once messy person hehe 🙂
