A lot of you have been asking me on Instagram how I have become so confident to create a blog, pose for photos, and put these pictures up on the internet.  To be quite frank I have always had a lot of insecurities, but being creative, styling unique outfits, and getting in front of the camera has been one of the best ways to boost my confidence.  And not because posing for photos has increased my narcissism, but because the creative process and challenge of art direction truly gets my creative juices flowing and gets me out of my head.  I pick a location (like this magical marbled Citigroup Atrium in San Francisco’s financial district), play some music, put on an amazing outfit and completely forget about myself, my worries, my personal problems and insecurities.

Confidence is something you need to work toward everyday.  I strongly encourage you to develop any type of hobby or work or activity that get you out of your head and in the flow of the work and in the flow of the moment.  For me it is taking photos, dancing, painting and blogging.  For you it might be working out, cooking a delicious meal, redecorating your house, or learning a new instrument.

On days when I need to feel my best I also turn to fashion as an outlet for armoring myself with an extra dose of confidence.  Sometimes we all have to fake it till we make it.  This all black look is a style I like to call ‘power fashion’ – an outfit that turns your inner power from OFF to ON like a Ferrari going zero to sixty.  VROOMMM!  Power fashion can come in any color, but it needs to have clean lines, minimal embellishment on garments and exaggerated details.  Although I have quite a feminine style, there is something about the masculinity of a strong blazer with exaggerated shoulders and sleeves that makes me feel super empowered.

Power dressing is partly the garment and partly an empowering route. A winning power outfit is really about whatever works best for you as an individual.

I’m curious – what pieces of fashion make you feel totally empowered?  How do you work on your own confidence daily?

PS… In big news I finally reached 10K on Instagram this week!  I am over the moon with gratitude for all your help, support, and inspiration in helping me reach this goal!!! Thank you SO much!!!

  1. Loving the photography special effects, location and your pink boots make the black Asha ! I agree with you that fashion and hobbies are good for your self confidence…..more healthy & less costly than alcohol or a psychiatrist plus seeing you brings joy to others and makes the world more beautiful.

  2. I love your power dressing, your futuristic and bold approach to fashion !
I feel empowered when I’m wearing original and colourful high heels with an edgy finish to my outfit (like pearl socks imitating the Gucci style combined with purple metallic loafers for instance), something that strikes you, that you remember, but also something that reveals your artistic soul, not just getting dressed cause we have to ^^

  3. I love this whole look! It’s so interesting how the power-suit look is so steeped in feminism and it really does give women a sense of strength and confidence.
I totally agree with posting pictures and exploring the creative side of fashion helping to boost confidence! I remember when I first started taking pictures of myself, it wasn’t a form of self indulgence but to learn to love my body and gain some self confidence. It totally works!
