Art is one of the first places I turn to for fashion inspiration, so today I thought it would be inspiring for me to share some behind the scenes shots from the SFMOMA’s opening party of Rene Magritte: The Fifth Season.  The SFMOMA is one of the most awe inspiring buildings filled with amazing art, lighting, architecture and coffee!  It is one of my favorite places to get lost in and discover amazing treasures.

When my dear from Diane (who is an amazing fashion icon of her own and makes most of her own clothes) invited me to the opening preview party I knew we would have a blast dressing up, exploring, and discussing Magritte’s surrealist philosophies and fantasies.

We loved the interactive exhibit, which features 70 oil paintings and gouaches, presented in a series of immersive galleries, revealing Magritte’s late paintings as as a collection of rich work that explores the human condition and paradoxes of reality.

There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of an amazing art museum to uplift and re-inspire you.  I cannot wait to buy a dramatic bowler hat and do a photoshoot with a pipe in hand as a prop! I love dressing up like a painting or time period of art, and the SFMOMA is the place in San Francisco to intrigue one’s ‘fashion imagination’.

Sometimes I don’t have the patience to sit and look at one piece for hours, and for those of you afraid getting bored at museum I recommend changing floors and exhibits frequently, bringing a good friend with you for company, and frequently visiting the cafe for libations!

Does art influence your sense of fashion?  What is your take on surrealism?

  1. I love your style (as always), chic, stylish, dramatic et flirtatious ! But most of all, I am so keen on this amazing combo art+fashion ! Magritte is a major inspiration, even for fashion ! I can definitely picture this photo you’re evoking, bowler hat, smoking pipe, apple, etc. I would really love to do a surrealistic photoshoot as well ! I love the lobster-phone, and Dali in general (who is Catalan, just like me!). If you go to the south of France of the North of Spain/Catalonia, I greatly recommend the Dali museum in Figueras. You will be amazed ! Check out some pictures on the Internet, you might find a great deal of inspiration there. I’m fascinated by the Surrealist movement, not only painters, but writers too : André Breton (L’Amour Fou) is a masterpiece ! You should read it, you’ll find some precious thoughts about love and creativity (intertwined!) about the convulsive beauty of eroticism! It’s deeply inspiring 😀
