I always find it fascinating how fashion and style reflect so much about the inner emotions, history, personal life, and evolution of an individual.

As a naturally creative person I have always found joy in my imagination and loved experimenting with many different types of fashion to express all of those different fantasies going on in my head.  I have loved trying many different looks over the years, and have finally learned that blue lipstick and Mom jeans, although they may look super cool when seen in the pages of Vogue Italia, those trends are really just not for me!!

Currently I am in the happiest and most satisfied period of my life.  I feel so at home in myself and I feel certain level of peace that I think is only achieved through the wisdom of life experience.   I have such a flood of emotions looking back, reflecting on what I have learned, how I have grown, and what I have loved.

Since starting Ms Coffee and Cream I have had quite a personal Renaissance.  I learned to live a life with less noise. My days are filled mostly with making photographs, cooking, some working out and enjoying the company of those I love the most – and those are the days when I am most happy.  I have found freedom and more importantly peace in my art and expression.

While I have always gravitated toward dresses and skirts, I have noticed that my current style is now truly grounded in my feminine nature that I have fully embraced.  I cannot tell you how deliciously good it feels to confidently embrace and express your true nature.

Along this personal and style journey I discovered the beautiful and feminine work of local San Francisco designer Vanessa Lynne.  Her pieces are sophisticated, feminine and yet so contemporary and all handmade in San Francisco.  As you know I love supporting local artisans and designers, so when Vanessa’s Gabrielle dress first arrived (pictured in this editorial) I could not stop twirling around my apartment in this stunning floral maxi dress that makes me feel like a modern nymph/ Jane Austen heroine.  If you also love to feel a bit like a fresh flower as we head into the longest days of the year definitely check out Vanessa’s beautiful SS18 collection (also plenty of lovely minimal blazers and suit sets as well).

My beauty routine is also evolving along with my personal renaissance.  I used to be the girl who would only buy drug store makeup on a whim, but lately I have been focusing on quality over quantity and brands that are ethical and have healthy ingredients and formulas. I do think beauty starts from within, how you feel about yourself, the joy you have inside you, your confidence. Then let’s be really honest, what you eat and drink and your genetics play a large role.  However, there are some super amazing high quality products that I just cannot live without and alway save the day!

My top favorite beauty discoveries are the magically seamless and super hydrating Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint and Ambient Lighting range of powders by Hourglass Cosmetics.  Hourglass products are free from parabens and sulfates, and create unbelievably surreal skin!  Literally their foundation and ambient lighting powders have made my skin completely look like it naturally has an Instagram filter on it (without looking unnatural).  I also love supporting Hourglass because it is a local California made company as well!

Another lovely vegan luxury beauty line I have had the pleasure of discovering is Plum and York – who make literally the lightest, most beautiful formulation of hydrating natural lipsticks, specifically geared toward women with darker, olive complexions.  I fell in love with the LA Isla Naranja dusty red color because it is so perfect for summer.  I have super dry skin, and this is the only lipstick I have found that has non of the bad stuff for my skin (no parabens, phthalates, gluten, synthetic flavors, synthetic fragrances etc) and all of the good stuff (Vitamin E, coconut oil, and nourishing Shea Butter).

It is lovely to wear products and pieces that I fully believe in and make me feel my best on the inside and out!

How does your sense of self expression and style reflect your true nature?  What keeps you passionate and satisfied everyday?

  1. Asha! It’s been a long time and I’m so happy to read you and see you haven’t lost your passion a bit! I’m so glad to read this kind of quality posts mixing fashion and personal story, emotions and an enlightened vision.
As a reader of your blog, I can totally confirm that you are blossoming in the personal Renaissance! And yes, sometimes less is more, it’s helps us stay focused and grounded and leaves room for our art and pondering.
What keeps me passionate everyday is connection with other people through my job, discussions and debates I can have with friends and students, but also self expression. When I can create a microcosm of my brain on a photo or a text and show it to the world and see that the world gets it (not everyone but just “the chosen few” ha ha) it really fills my heart with pure joy. Because I know I’m not alone… I hope you find great connections and great minds everyday to share your precious art in a dynamic and rich interaction 😘
    Have a great day !!
