Grace Coddington (once American Vogue’s Creative Director) has always had a very special place in my heart since I was a young teen oogling the pages of Vogue. Her work was always so full of vivid imagery, narrative storytelling and imagination – she truly brought the fantasy out in fashion. I remember being particularly taken by her December 2005 editorial shoot was inspired by L. Frank Baum‘s classic American fairy tale, The Wizard of Oz. Shot by one of my favorite photographers, Annie Leibowitz, the imagery of Keira Knightly as Dorothy made me dream and take me to a new world of beauty that I had never experienced.
I have always loved fairytales, fiction, witches, vampires, intrigue galore – and especially adore when fashion can create your favorite stories and make them come to life. This editorial is an ode to Grace Coddington’s work and inspiration in my life as well as a way I hope to express to you that fashion should be fun and should use your imagination.
So my friends, put on your ruby slippers and follow the yellow brick road!
