There are moments in life when you discover something so beautiful it takes your breath away. When I first stumbled upon beautiful work of Suzana Magalhães’s handcrafted pieces (under her label Luizas) I literally had a moment where I made as audible gasp outloud.
In a world becoming so fast and impatient I find it refreshing to meet true artists and fashion designers who take time to perfect their craft. One of the most rewarding things about working on this blog is getting to know talented and passionate artisans who still are making beautiful, high quality handmade pieces. Today I am so honored to be wearing this gorgeous, lush, silk Julieta Kimono.
Suzana and I had an immediate connection and began chatting via direct messenger on Instagram – I fell in love with her warmth, passion and expressive personality. Suzana reminded me that I fall in love with blogging because of people like herself. I love creating connections around the world with people who are also putting their passions to work everyday – that sense of a creative community is so invigorating and rewarding in itself.
Suzana started her brand with the intention of preserving and honoring the traditional embroideries, craftsmanship and artistry of Portuguese heritage. I have adored the process of getting to know Suzana and her love of preserving beautiful traditions in fashion from her culture and sharing them in a modern context with all women around the world. In todays’ Western culture it is so refreshing to take a step away from one’s learned desire to have large quantities of things right away and without great thought. Rather, this artful, silk, hand embroidered Julieta Kimono is wonderful reminder to honor and love things made with high quality, and to enjoy unique pieces for many years to come rather than succumb to the latest ephemeral trend.
