Have you recently discovered something new about yourself that you LOVE?? I never thought I was patient or detailed enough to puzzle over pixels allll day, but it turns out it can be quite a fun challenge, even when I feel like I’m just swimming upstream in circles and circles. My dear friend and fellow UX designer Valentina @vcalvache wrote me the most inspiring letter yesterday, about facing challenges and still loving yourself, and I wanted to share her valuable words of wisdom with you: “Let’s be infinite and courageous, for we have nothing to lose. In a world where we are often told to be sad and powerless, let’s shine and go wherever we want, because our moment here on earth is just one, and we are from beyond the limits of the earth. Are you as ready for this long weekend as me!!!!??? What are your plans?? Just in case you don’t have grand plans, I give you permission to truly just relax and enjoy some quiet time! It’s totally okay to not fill up your calendar! There is something very healing about the joy of missing out ;) ❤️ Things I’m looking froward to this weekend - having Jay’s parents see our new house for the first time! They will be performing a Hindu housewarming ceremony and I’m so excited to have some positive spiritual energy surrounding my loved ones. Ganesh is one of the main deities we will worship (he is the cool elephant 🐘 God) and he helps unblock obstacles in your path to success, and is a patron of the arts and new beginnings (we all need those obstacles unblocked right?). I remember my Dad cracking a fresh coconut 🥥 to symbolize the unblocking of obstacles while I was growing up, so this ritual brings up a lot of nostalgia and good memories for me (and who doesn’t love to eat fresh coconut meat??). We will also boil 🥛 milk to the point where it overflows, to symbolize great wealth and prosperity flowing abundantly in the house. We are also supposed to bring a cow into the house to symbolize blessings from Lord Shiva, but that’s not going to happen! Then we will be off to Tahoe for some fun in nature. YOU ✨CAN✨ REINVENT YOURSELF. ❤️ I want to remind you today: you are not stuck, you can reinvent yourself, and you are more than what you do. ❤️ Regardless of where you are today, if you hear that little whisper that you were made for more, just know that people love you for who you are, for just BEING, not for doing. ❤️ A lot of you DM me about how to start something new. The answer to ‘How to start?’ is, just start. If you want to be an artist make art, if you want to be a dancer, dance, if you want to be a Kpop Star start singing and sheet masking! Find places where you are able to do the things you wish to do. Join an art school, find a dance troupe or a theatre to perform at. Find people who do similar things, learn from them, get mentorship! Ask yourself if you want to make money from your passion or just pursue it as a hobby. Neither is a wrong answer, only you know your circumstances and limitations of what you can and cannot do. (At least at this very moment). Google every doubt that crosses your mind, learn everything you can and then apply it. Learn from your mistakes and be open to unlearning whatever you need to as time passes. Be creative not just in your craft but with how you approach your life, as there are no fixed paths. CELEBRATE where you are today!! It is so easy to chase what the next big thing in our life. It is so hard to slow down and evaluate and celebrate where you are at the moment. I don't know about you, but I used to judge myself very harshly ... and I still do sometimes, but I’ve finally learned some good tools 🛠 to deal! Last week I felt myself spiraling down into some anxiety and negative thinking - criticizing myself for not doing or being enough. Do you ever feel yourself spiraling into negative thoughts or moods? What triggers those for you? ... So this morning I made the conscious effort to meditate for 10 whole minutes (while face masking) and it just felt so cleansing and invigorating! I never though I would be the type of person who could meditate but trust me - even two minutes will help you set yourself up for success and positivity thinking! I’m not perfect at staying present, but I’m learning to enjoy where I am now, and stop thinking about what, who, and where I am not. Do you feel what I feel sometimes? Are you in the mood to jump back into bed today and never leave??? Give me your best emoji story of you are also feeling tired, overwhelmed and seriously just want to be on an glamorous Amalfi coast vacation right about now! 👇🏽 😴 But, we must keep pushing on! So to reinspire you, I thought I would share a bit about my create process. I took this photo on a self timer. In fact, every photo that I take during the workweek is basically a selfie 🤳 and sometimes I use a tripod for me iPhone and Bluetooth remote. I used to be really self conscious about this but I’ve realized that it’s the only way I can maintain my 9 to 5pm as a UX Design student and still find ways to be creative with my photos and videos for you guys! There is no way I could afford a professional photographer snapping all my photos, and frankly that would be boring because I would never grow or learn any new skills or feel independent! And I think we can all agree IG needs a little more different and a little less of the same. Stop scrolling and tell me what is your enneagram type??? I was super inspired by Penelope of @commeunfairytale latest post about being an enneagram type 4 and struggling with wanting to be unique and comparing herself to others. I am also a type 4 (with a 3 wing) and am so thankful for my type 8 husband who has the strength to straightforwardly tell me when I am being ridiculous and insecure. He does not tolerate any romantic melancholy or insecurity in me, and I think we all need that person who can snap us back to reality! I love the enneagram because it really helps you understand your own fears and desires, as well as how you interact in relationships and in the world.
